In this fast-paced world we live in, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and we often forget to find time to rest before the week ahead. Nothing could be more important than the space we spend time in and ensuring that it serves as a refuge for relaxation. The weekend is my favorite time to decompress and most importantly, to clean. I love nothing more than a home where everything is tucked away and has a place. Once my space is tidy, the first thing I want to do is transform my house into a space that I can call home.
- Start with a great scent.
A great way to make a house a home is to create an olfactory paradise. Fortunately, all it takes is a strike of a match. Light a candle and let your house be filled with the fragrant aroma then sit back and watch it unravel. - Bring life to a room.
Sometimes my space can appear dull even after many attempts to jazz it up. I have found that a quick jaunt to my local farmer’s market cures all. Play around with your arrangement depending on the season. For the upcoming fall, sunflowers are a great choice but during summer, spring and winter: dahlias, tulips and daffodils mark the spot!
- Fill with friends and family.
The easiest way to bring warmth into a house is by filling it with all of your favorite people. Having your friends and family flooding your kitchen is the best way to transform any accommodation into a home. Taking the time to make a sweet snacks or an easy appetizer can be a great way to wind down. - 1 cup tomatoes, pitted and diced (about 4 roma tomatoes)
- 1/4 cup red onion, diced (about 1/4 red onion)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 loaf of French baguette, sliced into ½ inch slices
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
In a bowl, combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic, basil, olive oil and salt and pepper. Toss together and let it rest so flavors can marinate together.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Combine the olive oil and garlic powder and brush on the top of each baguette. On a lined baking tray, place the baguettes into the oven to bake for 10 minutes or until light brown. Top each slice with a spoonful of the tomato mixture and drizzle with balsamic vinegar to serve.
